Let’s start the year off with a terrifying bang, shall we? After all, being a blogger is scary. And the more I write, the more I start to realize this. If only that made me any braver. But there are some things worth talking about, even if all you want to do is hide a hole with all your fluffy friends. There are a lot of sensitive discussions out there in terms of fiction and the books we obsessive over, but I never thought I’d really have too much trouble with them. After all, I’m a bit of a goody-two-shoes and don’t really like gettingRead More →

It’s about to get real up in here. Are you ready for it? NaNoWriMo just ended (cue the collective screams of exhaustion) and I’m not quite sure how to handle that. I mean, yes, I AM VERY HAPPY IT’S DONE. Because wow, even I was ready to stab myself in the thigh with a spork if I muttered the phrase NaNoWriMo one more time (which I just did twice in the span of three sentences. Omgggggg). But I also have a lot of mixed feelings too. Relief. Sadness. Doubt. Pride. Wait…pride? What? Okay, brace yourself for this, but my writing is actually pretty bad. Like,Read More →

Have I mentioned that writing synopsis’ is hard? Because it is. Like, really, really hard. For some reason trying to condense 60k+ words down to a couple of a paragraphs is ridiculously difficult. Who knew? Oh, and it not only has to be short, but also interesting, snappy, and not give too much information away. Yeah. I know. My life is so difficult. Ahem. I know I could just be patient and wait until I have a super amazing synopsis to share with you, but I won’t lie, I’m just kind of in love with this novel, okay? I’ve been so excited to work onRead More →

NaNoWriMo. That’s all. Yes, it has begun! We’re in full NaNoWriMo season around here. At this point, it’s difficult to open my mouth without something pertaining to NaNoWriMo popping out. Oh, you like to write? Are you doing NaNoWriMo? You’re planning for Thanksgiving? Have you factored in NaNoWriMo time? You love soft, adorable, fluffy bunnies? Guess what? NaNoWriMo is filled with them! (well, of the plotting variety anyway) And it’s not too late to join! It could be November 29th and it still wouldn’t be too late! But maybe you still have doubts. Maybe you’re still hesitant or nervous or have twenty newborn bunnies toRead More →

I’ve begun working on a new novel. With the completion of Fairytale and Gingerbread, I felt it important not to let myself lag (you know, even more than I already am). I’m still not making much progress on my Little Mermaid retelling, so I thought I needed to start something fresh. With NaNoWriMo right around the corner (btw, have you heard of it?) I thought I might just wait until November to start, but…nah. My brain had other plans in mind. Instead, I started working on a new novel that’s been on the docket for quite a few months, a retelling of the classic tale,Read More →

I love NaNoWriMo. Let’s just be clear here, in case I haven’t laid it on thick enough. I think NaNoWriMo is a fantastic event for writers of all ages, abilities and goals. When I first discovered it I fell head over heels, and even though I’ve only won twice in the last decade, I continue to sing its praises and encourage any fellow authors I know to participate. Which is why it always boggles my mind when they don’t want to! I know that trying new things can be totally frightening to people, trust me, I absolutely relate! But don’t be frightened little bunnies, becauseRead More →

I am SO excited about my NaNoWriMo novel this year. I’ve been absolutely twitterpated with it for months now and it just so happens that as I was about to share it with you, the lovely Cait over at Paperfury posted her Beautiful Books Meme all about NaNoWriMo! And since I’M all about NaNoWriMo and beautiful books, I decided to give it a try. I’ve never done one of her Memes before, so be patient with me while I figure this all out, I’m a delicate bunny and can’t handle harsh words. If you’re thinking about NaNo or already all prepped and ready to go,Read More →

Shhhhh. Do you hear that? It’s the sound of thousands of writers scurrying out of their burrows to join in the mass hysteria known as National Novel Writing Month. That’s right folks! You heard it here first! October is upon us! November is just around the corner. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS!? Every year October always seems to sneak up on me, and it’s a flurry of excitement, chills and disbelief that NaNoWriMo is almost here AGAIN (and that I just keep getting older omg). It’s one of the happiest seasons for many writers and every year I feel like it just keeps growingRead More →

I absolutely love that diversity is growing more popular in YA fiction. We’re slowly fading away from the days where the bookshelves exclusively offered white, able-bodied protagonists. While no doubt these types of heroes will never completely faded away (and they shouldn’t, as I staunchly believe everyone deserves representation), authors are really taking notice of what readers are demanding. That is to say: characters are that PoC, LGBT+, have disabilities or sickness. These types of characters are on the upswing in YA literature and it’s really making a difference in spreading positive stories about people who might be different than ourselves. But something I’ve noticed?Read More →

Is it me, or are YA books getting longer and longer these days? Okay, fine, maybe it’s just the circles I run in, but I definitely am feeling the trend of everyone and their grandma’s dogs are writing 100,000k+ epics nowadays and I’m sitting here struggling to make my measly NaNo 50k goal. Don’t believe me? Check out this very real conversation I had the other day: Me: Oh man, I’m feeling great about my writing this year! Real Other Person: Me too! Me: That’s awesome! What’s your current word-count? Real Other Person: 15846841537145 words. You? Me: ……um Yes, this absolutely happened and wasn’t exaggeratingRead More →
