My book is with betas!

My book is with betas!

Super quick update today people!!

As of March 19th, 2018, my manuscript for Fairytale has been sent off to BETA READERS!!! AAAAAAAAH!!! BE AMAZED!!

To say this is exciting is quite possibly the understatement of the century and I don’t need that kind of shade thrown at me so Back. Up.

Since the beginning of 2018, the edits for Fairytale have essentially consumed my life. I haven’t worked on much actual writing for any of my other novels, focusing all my efforts on the second, third and fourth draft of my debut novel. As someone who has only ever done light edits before (basically for quick fanfic stories where the readers aren’t quite so fussed about a super-polished read), this was a HUGE CHALLENGE for me.

Guys, I honestly thought I’d be done IN A MONTH. Oh, how naive I was. So, so naive.

But it’s still not done. Oh no. This victory is short-lived, but it’s mine, and you’re not taking it away from me.

While my book is with my betas the desire to sleep for a million years and never type another word is strong. But I must be strong and not give in. As I wait for the edits and suggestions I’m dabbling in some of my other novels again, but once those emails start rolling in the work is going to start all over again. More self-edits, another read through, and then…..THE PROFESSIONAL EDITOR.

Guys. I’m terrified. Hold me?

Like almost everything throughout this process, working with professional editors is entirely new to me. I have a laundry list of potential editors already saved that I’m mentally preparing myself to go through the first week of April. You would think at this point I’d be more excited than anything, but the thought of my precious bookbaby being torn to shred and lying on the floor bleeding in red ink is pretty much horrifying. But sadly, it must be done.

Now -ahem- to get back to YOU (because I guess everything isn’t always all about me???), looking back on my blog I realize I’m not posting as many discussions as I want to. This was one of my goals for 2018, and I’m pretty focused on making this happen. Of course, this blog also doubles as a diary of sorts to record my actual writing journey and give anyone with an iota of interest a peek into my process, so posts like this one aren’t going away anytime soon. Buuuuuuuut, I don’t want it to be just that either. Since I started this blog last year I’ve had a lot of fun dipping my toes in the book community and I’m not ready to get out of the pool just yet.

SO! I ask you, lovely reader (who is also so smart and beautiful), what types of discussions would you like to read?

I’ve been so busy these past few weeks that I admit this blog has taken a bit of a backseat to the rest of my focus, but I’m not ready to call in an official hiatus just yet and I’m still here, I’m still writing, and I’m still ready to discuss all things books! Now that Fairytale is off into the world and I’m hoping I’ll be able to swing back into a more steady blogging routine once again.

Like I said, just a short, quick post today, but sometimes that’s all it takes. Until next time!

Have you ever had your work read my beta readers? Does the editing process also shock and terrify you? Aside from my constant blathering on my novels, what ELSE would you like me to discuss and post about?

  1. Ooh yes getting betas is exciting and FUN! I don’t have a lot of betas but the few I have we usually swap manuscripts too, so it’s fun and no one is too harsh or anything haha.😂 And once I got started working with an editor…holy heck it IS daunting at first but they (should) truly love your story and want it to be best, so all the “let’s fix this” are done in love which is a little less terrifying hehe. And I actually am starting to enjoy ripping my books apart and redoing them now?! It’s good to know you don’t have to get it 100% right the first time and there’s room for mistakes and improving!

I’m desperately hoping once it’s time to work with an official editor the excitement will overtake the sheer and utter terror. But so far a couple of my beta couple haven’t been nearly as heart-wrenching as I thought it would be, so keeping my fingers crossed 🙂 Even so, cake always makes things way easier 😉

  2. AHHHH BEST OF LUCK, REBECCAH! Any criticisms they might have will make you and your beautiful babies better, and they’ll tell you everything with your best interest in mind. <3 <3

As for the discussion posts, I've loved everything you've had on so far, so no complaints here! 😉
