Do you hear that? It’s the sound of another complete first draft!
Okay, so I’m not entirely sure what that actually sounds like (millions of cheering bunnies most likely), but the point is: my first draft of Gingerbread is done!
As of 9/14/17, I have put the finishing touches on the complete first draft of the second novel of The Pixie Chronicles. Gingerbread is a retelling of the classic fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel, with my own touches addedcto it. Like most of my retellings, it takes key elements of the original tale and looks at them with a whole new perspective. Gingerbread was particularly fun to write as the entire novel is told from the typical villain’s point-of-view: the witch!
- Like I did with my other first draft of Fairytale, I’m going to let this draft rest for a bit. I’ll put it away, push it out of my mind and focus on something else. As the year is winding to an end, I’m starting to think I may get started on editing some time in early 2018.
- I probably should get back to Ocean’s Daughter. I admit, I’ve been lagging on it a bit and I need to get myself reacquainted with it again so I can dive back in (get it? Dive? Ocean? hahahahahah-so clever).
- It’s time to choose 2 new novels to add to my queue! I want to stick to my tradition of 3 novels at a time and as both Fairytale and Gingerbread are now complete (OMG), I need to keep moving forward and figure out my next projects!
With NaNoWriMo right around the corner I feel like things are growing particularly exciting. Even if I don’t make 50k in a month, the camaraderie and vibrancy within the writing community always flares to life this time of year and it’s so easy to get swept up in all of it. Now that I have two novels completed, I feel like I have a little bit of time to take a break and really analyze where I want to go here and what I should focus on in November.
have you had any novel successes lately? Share them with me!!! What does your cheering squad look like? Bunnies? Kittens? Chinchillas?
